Testers Keepers: Philips SmartSleep Light review by Pascale Faiad

Posted on 04 July 2023

Phillips sleep smart speaker is an innovative creative design that’s not only a sleep alarm but, it’s also a lamp, radio, relaxation functions, speaker and you can even charge your phone.

It comes with an instruction manual, which is very concise and thorough and easy to read. In multiple languages. That being said, the functions take somewhat getting used to and it took me about 7 days to get accustomed with it.

You can set multiple alarms if you wish at different times. To snooze simply tap the top of the speaker. To turn it off you tap the bell icon on the touch screen. There are 3 alarm sounds you can choose from.

The night light has 25 intensity settings which can be adjusted accordingly via the relevant icon. I warn you it's very very bright! When the alarm goes off if you've selected sunset simulation, there will be change in brightness of the light and gradual changing colours. You can set the duration, intensity and select a sound from natural sounds, radio or your own music. There's also a midnight light feature that activates a dim light, by taping the top.

To listen to the radio select the radio icon, tap the top. You can have 5 radio stations set and plug in your phone via an aux cable to listen to your desired music. (The cable isn't supplied you'll have to purchase it separately).

The final feature this smart speaker offers is a relax and breath program. It has a choice of seven relaxation programs, each one offers different breathing paces. You can adapt your music and light settings to suit you. The instruction manual also gives guidance on how to best utilise this feature to maximise the benefits.

This speaker is definitely a thing of the future! It's well designed and offers a way to get into a good sleeping cycle to improve your health. It would be better if there were more options on the choice of sounds or even better yet a way of downloading sounds to suit each individual. It would make it feel a lot more personal and tailored.
