Testers Keepers: Fitbit Alta review by LLoyd Mappley

Posted on 25 May 2019

This item arrived quickly and I was eager to try it out as soon as possible.

The charger clicks into place on the back of the unit, much better than having to remove the electronic capsule and place it in a charging dock as I have had to do on my previous Fitbit Flex.

However, unlike my Fitbit Flex, this only came with one size of strap which unfortunately didn’t fit me. Luckily my wife stepped up and she has been wearing and recording the data it provides.

It has been brilliantly accurate with distance walked, activities and sleep duration. It looks good and is splash proof (sadly not waterproof like the Fitbit Flex).

It was supplied with a black, detachable strap, which is comfortable to wear and can easily be changed to other coloured straps if you should wish.

The face shows the time simply by moving your wrist towards you, saving battery by not being on constant display.

You can edit which functions you want the Alta to display and there’s also a really good ‘silent alarm'. The Alta vibrates rather than make a noise. I wasn’t sure if this would be enough to wake me, but it works really well.

If you enter information about the food and drink you consume it will work out the calorific content and show you, via the app on your Smartphone, how many calories you have eaten and how many calories have been burned from your exercise or even just walking around. A great idea if you’re trying to keep track of your weight.
